DTF Pressing Instructions

Get the Best Results from Your DTF Transfers

For the best finish, durability, and wash performance, follow these recommended pressing steps when applying Kinard’s Creations DTF transfers.

Because heat presses, garments, and fabrics can vary, we recommend testing your settings before completing a full production run.

Recommended Heat Press Settings

  • Temperature: 300°F–320°F
  • Press Time: 10–15 seconds
  • Pressure: Medium to firm
  • Peel: Follow the peel type provided with your transfer
  • Final Press: 5–10 seconds

Step-by-Step Application

1. Prepare Your Garment
Place the garment flat on your heat press and make sure the application area is clean, dry, and free from wrinkles.

2. Pre-Press the Garment
Press the garment for approximately 3–5 seconds before applying the transfer. This helps remove moisture and wrinkles and creates a smooth surface.

3. Position the DTF Transfer
Place the transfer on the garment with the printed design facing the fabric. Make sure it is centered and positioned exactly where you want it.

4. Press the Transfer
Heat press at approximately 300°F–320°F for 10–15 seconds using medium to firm pressure.

5. Peel the Film
Allow the transfer to peel according to the recommended peel method for your specific transfer. Do not force the carrier film if the transfer has not fully bonded.

6. Final Press
Cover the design with parchment paper, a finishing sheet, or another appropriate protective sheet and press again for approximately 5–10 seconds.

This final press helps improve the finish and durability of the transfer.

Before Pressing Multiple Garments

Heat presses can vary significantly in actual temperature and pressure. Before producing a large order, test one transfer on a sample garment and adjust your settings if necessary.

If the transfer is not adhering properly, check:

  • Heat press temperature
  • Pressing pressure
  • Pressing time
  • Fabric type
  • Moisture in the garment
  • Whether the transfer has been peeled correctly

Fabric Considerations

DTF transfers work well on many common materials, including:

  • Cotton
  • Polyester
  • Cotton/polyester blends
  • Hoodies
  • T-shirts
  • Tote bags
  • Other compatible fabric products

For heat-sensitive or specialty materials, always test before pressing. Some polyester garments may also require lower temperatures to reduce the risk of dye migration or scorching.

DTF Transfer Care Instructions

For longer-lasting results:

  • Wait at least 24 hours before washing
  • Wash garments inside out
  • Use cold or warm water
  • Use a mild detergent
  • Avoid bleach
  • Tumble dry on low or hang dry when possible
  • Do not iron directly over the printed design
